CFUW COQUITLAM, is a local chapter in a
national organization, CFUW (Canadian Federation of University
Women) that is affiliated with an International body, the IFUW
(International Federation of University Women)
CFUW Coquitlam, is a voluntary, non-profit,
self funded organization. Our chapter was granted a charter in April
1969. CFUW Coquitlam services the Tri-Cities area. The membership
includes graduates (and associate members) from across Canada and
abroad.
The club helped with the establishment of the
first Coquitlam Public Library and acted as a catalyst in developing
a public library board.
At present, the club provides bursaries to the
senior secondary schools in School District #43, annual bursaries
at Douglas College, namely the Millennium Bursary, and an annual
scholarship at Simon Fraser University through an endowment fund
established by the club in 1996. In recognition of the award to
the university, the club was welcomed to the Thelma Finlayson
Society, an association of friends of the university, which
provides philanthropic support. The club is very proud of the honor
especially as Thelma Finlayson is also a club member.
